REVEALED: Majority of British public believe in ALIENS

TWO THIRDS of Britons believe that alien life is out there lurking on other planets, according to a bombshell new survey.

In total 64 per cent of respondents to a landmark poll said they are convinced that we are not alone in the universe.

The result come after Russian scientists claimed they had received a mysterious signal from outer space, which prompted some to speculate that an alien race is trying to contact Earth.

The British public certainly believe – or hope – that a distant civilisation is trying to contact us, with a fifth saying they reckon the aliens out there are more intelligent than us.

Just slightly more than a tenth believe that we are alone, mirroring a growing consensus amongst scientists that humans are unlikely to be the only intelligent life in the universe.

Just 12 per cent believe that we are alone

The results of the ICMLitmus survey, passed exclusively onto Express.co.uk, also show that 66 per cent of those who have attended university believe in alien life, whereas just 43 per cent of people who have had no formal education believe in extra-terrestrial beings.

Additionally, more men (68 per cent) believe in aliens compared to women (60 per cent).

Scientists Adam Frank and Woodruff Sullivan recently claimed that aliens almost definitely exist within our universe.

A research paper revisited the famous Drake Equation and concluded the chances are even higher than the original formula suggested.

In 1961, scientist Frank Drake came up with an equation outlining the variables and chances of an alien civilisation in the universe.

It took into consideration factors such as the rate of formation of stars suitable for the development of life in surrounding planets and the number of planets per solar system.

While there is no unique solution for the equation, it is widely regarded as meaning the chances of finding life out there are probable.

Adam Frank said: “Thanks to NASA’s Kepler satellite and other searches, we now know that roughly one-fifth of stars have planets in ‘habitable zones’, where temperatures could support life as we know it.

Scientists believe that we are almost certainly not alone

“One in 10 billion trillions is incredibly small.

“To me, this implies that other intelligent, technology-producing species very likely have evolved before us.”
