World UFO Day: Five times UFOs were reported in Oswestry

THE question ‘are we alone in the universe?’ has been debated for centuries – but some Oswestry residents are almost certain we are not living on the only planet to host life.

There have been multiple UFO sightings in Oswestry over the past 30 years, whether it be reports of lights changing positions in the sky near Oswestry School, or a star-sized pink dot hovering over Church Street.

According to website UFO Stalker, Oswestry residents have reported potential extraterrestrial visitors five times between 1999 and 2020.

With July 2 marking World UFO Day, we compiled a list of the five sightings and the details about them.

1) Sighting near Oswestry School (October 31, 1999)

THE earliest sighting in Oswestry reported to UFO Stalker was made about an incident on Hallowe’en of 1999.

The report was not officially made to the website until almost 20 years later in September of 2019.

A brief description of the sighting stated that there were lights in the sky which changed positions, before speeding off at ‘hyper speed’.

2) Sighting from Church Street (June 11, 2008)

THERE was a gap of almost a decade before the next Oswestry-based sighting was reported to the website.

This time, one resident spotted what looked like a star-sized pink dot from Church Street.

The sighting occurred at around 6am and was reported almost immediately.

3) Sighting near Cae Glas Park (February 16, 2013)

IN FEBRUARY of 2013, one resident in the town reported seeing an unusual-shaped solid object, which was making a loud humming and rumbling noise.

The sighting was made by a resident near to Cae Glas Park at around 6.45am – the sighting was reported later that day.

A description of the sighting stated the noise emitted by the flying object affected animals in the house.

4) Sighting above Oswestry (December 18, 2017)

ANOTHER sighting was reported above Oswestry without a specific location in December 2017.

The suspected UFO was reported as being seen at around 7.45pm.

The person who spotted the object described it as an object that glittered like Venus but at the wrong time of day.

It was also described as having bright random colours and moving from left to right before fading out.

5) Sighting at Old Oswestry Hillfort (March 18, 2020)

THE most recent sighting in Oswestry was reported last year by a person at Old Oswestry Hillfort.

This time, the UFO was described as a triangle-shaped craft, and was spotted at around 2pm.

A walker was at the hillfort when they believe they spotted an unusual aircraft which was making a humming noise.

Sightings have also been reported to UFO Stalker by residents in neighbouring north Shropshire towns.

A sighting in Chirk in 2014 reported a star-like formation in the middle of the day which faded away slowly.

In Ellesmere, 11 half-sized planes with ‘fins not wings’ were said to be flying in formation by a driver in the area.

There was also a sighting of a black triangle in the early hours of the morning on July 19, 2019.

The UFO was said to have three bright white lights and to not be making any sound.

Other unreported sightings have been made in Oswestry, including at the end of 2019 when some residents reported clusters of slow-moving lights in the skies above north Shropshire.

It was later revealed that these were in fact satellites belonging to Elon Musk’s Starlink project.
