ARE WE REALLY ALONE?The world’s most shocking ‘alien’ discoveries that have convinced UFO hunters the truth really is out there

THERE have been hundreds of reported alien sightings around the world throughout history.

New encounters flood in every year, cited by UFO enthusiasts as evidence that the truth is out there.

The “proof” of alien life ranges from claims of being abducted by extra-terrestrials to UFO sightings.

Some have even claimed to have discovered artefacts from other planets.

Many of the reports are debunked and proven to be elaborate hoaxes by fraudsters.

Sceptics show others to be the result of innocent explanations or simple mistakes.

But some have proved harder to discredit, and are clung to by alien hunters looking to confirm the existence of so-called “little green men”.

Here are a few of the finds that have persisted over the years…

The Sri Lanka meteorite

A Brit scientist claimed a meteorite that was found in 2012 after falling to Earth in Sri Lanka was proof that aliens exist.

Prof Chandra Wickramasinghe examined the two-inch rock after it crashed in a fireball near Polonnaruwa, and found extra-terrestrial seaweed fossils inside it.

He said the algae remains prove life exists elsewhere in space and show how “seeds of life” plummeted to Earth and multiplied 3,800 million years ago.

The Cardiff University astrobiologist, 74, said: “These are crushing evidence that human life started outside Earth. The rock has organisms we have not identified.

“We are all aliens. We share a cosmic ancestry.”

The Lubbock Lights

On the evening of August 25, 1951, three science professors from Texas Tech University spotted a semicircle of bright lights whizzing by above them in the sky above Lubbock in the US.

Over the coming days, authorities received dozens of similar reports from across the city.

One student at the uni even snapped photos of the phenomenon, which were widely published in newspapers and magazines.

An investigation concluded it was actually caused by birds reflecting the light from Lubbock’s new street lamps.

But many who witnessed the spectacle are not convinced, insisting the objects were moving too fast.

The Betz mystery sphere

The Betz family were examining the damage to their land caused by a mysterious bush fire on Fort George Island, just east of Jacksonville, Florida, in 1974, when they made a curious discovery.

They stumbled across a metallic sphere, measuring about eight inches across, lying on the ground.

Totally smooth, apart from an elongated triangular symbol, the family took the orb home with them.

But they claimed they soon started to notice strange goings-on, including rattling, throbbing or humming noises coming from the object.

It was also said to be able to stop and change directions when pushed across the floor – returning to the person who pushed it as if it had a mind of its own and even defying gravity to avoid falling.

The US military took it away for testing after the family reported poltergeist–like behaviour such as doors slamming.

But X-rays revealed it to be nothing but a solid metal ball.

The UFO ‘tooth-wheel’

A man in Vladivostok, Russia, was lighting a fire when he claimed to find a mysterious metallic object embedded in one of the pieces of coal.

The discovery – made from 98 per cent aluminium and two per cent magnesium, according to Voice of Russia – looked like a piece of a tooth-wheel from some kind of machine.

But the coal was reportedly dated at around 300 million years old, whereas that kind of machinery wasn’t invented by humans until the 19th century.

The “tooth-wheel” divided opinion, with some claiming the object was part of an alien spacecraft but sceptics branding the claims “laughable”.

These artefacts, believed to have been made by the ancient Quimbaya people, were unearthed in South America.

The civilisation was famous for its spectacular gold work.

But among the treasures and trinkets uncovered were strange aeroplane-like objects.

The similarities between the models and modern aircraft are astounding – featuring wings and stabilising tails.

UFO hunters have pointed to the models as proof of alien contact with ancient humans.

But others say the relics are simply models of birds or insects.

The ‘Belgian Wave’

Citizens of Belgium reported seeing a large, triangular UFO floating through the sky in 1989 and 1990.

Some 13,500 people across the country are estimated to have witnessed the phenomenon, according to History.

Fighter jets from the Belgian air force were sent to investigate the mysterious reports.

The pilots detected objects on their radar, despite not being able to see them with the naked eye.

But when they tried to intercept them, the UFOs moved so fast they were able to outpace the F-16 jets and escape.

Several “alien mummies” were unveiled during a press conference called “The mummies of Nazca” in Peru by Mexican ufologist and journalist Jaime Maussan in July 2017.

This included X-rays of the mummified remains so Maussan could banish claims that they were fake or made of plaster, Ruptly reported.

Maussan alleged that of the five bodies discovered, three of them had “characteristics that are closer to reptiles than humans”, and featured three long fingers.

He claimed carbon dating samples of the body dates between 245 to 410 AD, though the result has not been verified as true.

And he added: “Nobody has proved it is a fraud.”

But some were unconvinced, branding the “discovery” a hoax.
